• High school diploma or equivalent
• Previous experience working in a security position or a guard shack environment
• Warehouse and yard management experience preferred
• Intermediate skills operating:
  • Computer
  • 3-way communication radio
  • CB radio
  • Telephone
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to create and maintain professional relationships within all levels of the organization (peers, work groups, customers, supervisors)
• Ability to work independently and as member of a team
• Flexibility to operate and self-driven to excel in a fast-paced environment
• Capable of multi-tasking

• Detail oriented with excellent follow-up practices

• Responsible for obtaining from inbound driver the RLC #2 appointment number or shipment/PO number for the inbound load

• Responsible for completing a check in sheet for each inbound load entering the yard/facility and directing the driver to the appropriate dock door or yard location as per specified by the Shipping & Receiving Coordinator, for the trailer to be dropped

• The Guard will coordinate with the driver and Shipping/Receiving Coordinator the appropriate yard location to drop the trailer for all loads. 

• Accountable for only allowing live inbound trailers in the yard within a one hour range of their current time. Later appointments need to be sent to Petro to wait for their appropriate appointment time depending upon inventory needs for the facility. Drop trailers may be dropped before their scheduled time and unloaded according to their appointment or earlier depending upon inventory needs

• Continuously check fuel levels on dropped trailers to ensure adequate maintenance of the operating refrigeration unit

• The Guard will be responsible for checking in any dropped loads brought into the yard over the weekend when facility is closed. In addition he must write an SOP for this procedure

• Yard check before and after their shift. A report must be filled out and given to the Operations Supervisor

• Provide a visitor’s badge for any visitor or vendor due on site on that particular day whose name appears on a schedule list. These visitors will then be allowed on to the property and directed to the front office

• Request permission from the Shipping & Receiving Coordinator for a visitor or vendor showing up at the gate unannounced. The guard must make sure that all visitors are accompanied by a Ryder Staff member. Inform the visitor that the badge must be worn at all times and returned to the Guard upon checkout

• The Guard is responsible for maintaining a checklist of visitor’s badges in the guard shack

• Follow all safety procedures established in the facility

• Maintain a safe and clean working environment, tour ready guard shack and yard

• Perform other duties as assigned
