Position Description

Support assigned VP of Operations by being responsible for strategic coordination of resources (Engineering, Quality, Lean, and Program Management) to support new business development and existing operations.

 

As part of the Ryder team, the Senior Director, Continuous Improvement will handle a variety of tasks. The primary task is to lead continuous improvement and operational excellence disciplines for the Automotive Supply Chain Solutions (SCS) vertical in North America. This includes engineering, quality, lean and project management functions focused on delivering value to our operations and customers through engineering and continuous improvement methods, tools, people and services. The role is expected to deliver operational results that support the objectives of the SCS business, works with leadership teams to develop Operational Excellence strategies that align with the overall company strategy, and manages the overall portfolio of operational excellence initiatives across the vertical accounts and business processes. The Sr. Director, CI will be a change leader, process expert and lean practitioner responsible for building consensus and transforming the business.

 

Other responsibilities include: 

 

  1. Oversees engineering support functions including slotting, layout & design, labor management systems, data analysis, material flow analysis and resource modeling.
  2. Aligns CI initiatives and project objectives to business strategy and prioritizes projects accordingly. Facilitate strategic planning and tactical process improvement events. Lead cross functional team to identify improvement opportunities and works with leadership to prioritize & plan initiatives. Present to executive leadership team on status and results of operational excellence initiatives.
  3. Coaches, mentor, trains and provides support to Supply Chain Excellence team members and operational resources to assure understanding and acceptance of continuous improvements & Lean processes, industrial engineering methods, best practices & tools. Develop individuals to become change agents, experts in lean and sought-after resource
  4. Work with vertical operations leaders to establish continuous improvement goals and act as a liaison with finance to build continuous improvement budgets and validating actual improvement results. Manage monthly budget review process and financial reconciliation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s desgree in business/engineering/logistics or equivalent program required - MBA preferred
  • Eight (8) years of quality, process or operations management experience
  • Five (5) years of supervisory experience
  • Master Lean Sensei certification or Master Black Belt required
  • Value Stream management experience
  • Substantial experience in TQM, Six Sigma, Mixed Model Flow/Pull and other process improvement experience
  • Experience in teaching, mentoring teams, and working with Six Sigma academies
  • Demonstrated system and change implementation skills
  • Communication skills
  • Interpersonal skills and ability to facilitate and motivate teams
  • Proficiency required in MS Office including Project, SPC Excel, Internal Audit/Corrective Action Systems Software (e.g. JKT), Mini-tab, Lotus Notes

Responsibilities

  • Directs continuous improvement programs including Lean Six Sigma, Lean Enterprise and Kaizen
  • Aligns quality initiatives and project objectives to business strategy and prioritizes projects accordingly; Includes key stakeholders in process, as required
  • Coaches and provides support to key leaders to assure understanding and acceptance and use of continuous improvements processes
  • Interfaces with senior level management to establish standard quality communications and action oriented forums (reviewing /analyzing quality performance, deploy policies and strategies, share best practices)
  • Establishes and leads cross-functional teams to improve overall quality/process improvement; May include collaboration with customers
  • Creates workforce and staffing plans and ensures availability of human capital necessary to accomplish planned business results
