Position Description

Responsibilities for the Shipment Management Coordinator involve working in a very dynamic environment resolving customer/carrier issues as well as handling shipment exceptions such as updates and expedites in a timely manner. The Coordinator will also be responsible for identifying areas for continual improvement to streamline processes and reduce costs, as well as drive increased systemic solutions. Other responsibilities include cross-training at the account and functional area level, as well as maintaining metrics and tracking exceptions. As client support is provided by Ryder 24x7, the Coordinator may also be required to support the client after-hours such as nights, weekends, and/or holidays via cell phone rotation and remote equipment or via in-office tools and phones.



*Logistics/Supply Chain experience preferred
*Proficient with MS Excel & Outlook

  • A High School diploma or equivalent is required for this position
  • Experience with Lotus Notes or similar e-mail application
  • Advanced Level Skills in MS Word such as keyboard short cuts, creating macros, merge, merge queries, templates, table techniques, and working with images and text
  • Advanced Level Skills in MS Excel such as working with formulas, data tables, pivot Charts, queries, custom functions, data management and analysis
  • Advanced Level Skills in MS Power Point such as inserting charts, graphs & tables, animation & multimedia, customizing slide shows with hyperlinks, drawing & working with objects, speaker notes & meeting notes, and advanced presentation features


  • Knowledge and understanding of the basic requirements for freight movement (truckload, air, small parcel, LTL, etc.) is required
  • Candidate must also possess strong customer service, analytical and computer skills to include: Good communication skills
  • Advanced problem solving skills Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision


  • Responsibilities will include: handling extensive telephone calls from internal and external customer base, identify possible transportation problems and resolve quickly and in a cost effective manner
  • Utilize the most efficient and cost effective mode determination for Ryder and the customer
  • Identify possible cost savings for the customer, receive and enter shipment level information from customers into TMC operational support systems
  • Provide logistical solutions to customer requirements and requests, act as after-hours contact via pager for customer account, facilitation of non-typical or specialized customer requests, route shipments using enabling technologies and business processes to insure maximum value to customers, assist SMR and new hires in training and on-going operational activities
  • Utilize methods and procedures to achieve process compliance and organizational goals, support and maintain standard customer and operational reporting
  • Provide feedback and recommendations to drive continuous improvement at account and operational level, data interpretation and cleansing, support
  • Track and Trace/POD inquiries, resolve and track customer complaints and issues, provide feedback on SMR performance, insure and promote a safe and secure work environment, related duties as assigned by Management
